Exciting news from Hinckley this week as UK manufacturer Triumph announced plans to develop a new line of enduro and motocross motorcycles.

The Hinckley-based brand has teamed up with motocross legend Ricky Carmichael and five-time enduro world champion Iván Cervantes, who will test and prepare the new bikes for racing, a surefire sign of the brand’s commitment to launching influence to take the sport.

Commenting on the move, Nick Bloor, CEO of Triumph, said: “Today’s announcement marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Triumph brand that everyone at Triumph is excited about. We are 100% committed to making a lasting impact in this highly competitive and demanding world, with a single-minded ambition to bring a winning collection of bikes to a whole new generation of Triumph riders. “

What could that mean for us adventure bikers?

Aside from the exciting prospect of a British manufacturer diving into the world of off-road racing, the news made us lick our lips here at the ABR HQ as well.

We keep our fingers crossed that with new Triumph motocross motorcycles, the company could ultimately use the knowledge and know-how gained in the process to produce a street-legal trail bike with low capacity in the future.

Whether we’ll see anything in the future that can compete with Honda’s CRF300L remains to be seen, but we’re always the optimists.

Of course, we know the Hinckley team are pretty adept at building bikes that excel in the dirt Tiger 900 Rally Pro or read about the time we were Herd cows on the Scrambler 1200 XC to find out how much fun we had in the saddle of a Triumph SUV as evidence.

For now, keep an eye on Triumph’s ABR website and social media feeds to find out more about the new contest series.
