In a shocking announcement, UK motorcycle brand Triumph announced that it is at the advanced stage of developing a full line of brand new motocross and enduro motorcycles for competition. Even if the brand is no stranger to building off-road motorcycles, the popular Tiger and Scrambler series bear witness to this. It will be the first time in the company’s long history to produce special motocross and enduro motorcycles with lower capacity.

The introduction of this new motocross and enduro motorcycle family goes hand in hand with a commitment to a completely new Triumph works race program and a commitment to top-class sport in the motocross and enduro series. As part of its commitment to racing, Triumph has teamed up with global motocross legends Ricky Carmichael and five-time Enduro World Champion Ivan Cervantes, who have joined the Triumph family as active partners in testing the new models.

Ricky Carmichael’s family tree is undisputed. As an amateur, he won 67 national championships before turning pro. As a professional, he won a record of 15 motocross championships and five supercross championships, scoring 150 race victories.

100% commitment

Nick Bloor, CEO of Triumph Motorcycles, said, “Triumph is 100% committed to making a lasting impact in this highly competitive and demanding world, with a single-minded ambition to bring a winning collection of motorcycles to a whole new generation of Triumph riders . “

Adds Carmichael, “This is an incredible opportunity for me to join this historic brand and I am honored and humbled to be part of the development and release of their off-road motorcycles. Building something from the ground up is something that is really fascinating. ”Me at this stage in my career. What impresses me is Triumph’s commitment and passion to develop a first-class product. Everyone I have been involved with on this project has shown an extreme passion for what they do and that is a recipe for success and something I enjoy being a part of. “

The motocross and enduro markets are dominated by established players like KTM, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Suzuki, so Triumph has a lot to do. However, recent history has shown that Triumph can quickly develop new, high quality products. Plus, Triumph must have shown Carmichael something special during his visit to their research and development center to lure him into their camp. While Triumph is better known for its range of retro-modern machines like the Bonneville and Street Scrambler and their Pukka Tiger range adventure motorcycles, they are also the sole engine supplier for the Moto2 category.

Globally, the off-road motorcycle market has grown rapidly and there is no sign of this slowdown slowing, especially in the wake of a pandemic when many people are looking for escapism. And there is nothing better than putting on a helmet and fleeing into the unknown.

Details on the schedule and the unveiling of the new off-road models and the racing program will not be released until the coming months, but a reveal is expected in 2022.
