A few months ago, Harley-Davidson announced that it would create a separate brand, LiveWire, to handle the production of electric bicycles. And in July, that brand lifted the lid of its first bike, the LiveWire One.

Well, if that sounds and looks a bit familiar, that’s because it is.

The LiveWire One is essentially the same bike that Charley and Ewan converted into an adventure bike to do the Long way up and the same bike that APR Editor James reviewed a recent issue of the magazine, albeit with a new name and badge on the tank. But the birth of the LiveWire One seems like good news for cycling, and here’s why …

Are the prices of electric bicycles falling?

With the renaming, the price of the LiveWire One has fallen by a massive 30% from USD 30,000 to USD 21,999 in the US alone.

While we have yet to see what the UK model will set buyers back (LiveWire won’t be bringing bikes until 2022, but a quick upgrade plus the £ 1,500 government-backed EV grant suggests you can get a LiveWire for under £ 15,000 could.

But that’s not all. The spin-off of LiveWire as a proprietary brand suggests that a whole new line of different electric bikes may be on the way, and we traverse it all in the hope that after the heroics there will be an electric adventure bike Long way… Duo in South America.

So would the drop in prices be enough to make you go electric in the near future? Or do you wait a while longer? Let us know in the comments.

For the time being, James’ full review of LiveWire can be viewed on the ABR Digital Library, which is accessible here. Spoiler alert: it’s a damn good bike.
