Triumph just released a number of teaser pictures showing the brand new Tiger 1200 off-road and they got us really excited here at ABR HQ.
We’ve suspected for a while that the British manufacturer was looking to overhaul its largest adventure bike, just after the success of the updated Tiger 900 range in 2019, and judging from the teaser footage, it looks like we’ve won don’t wait too long anymore.
In addition to the photos, the Hinckley team also gave us a few hints of what to expect from the new Triumph Tiger 1200. Here’s everything we know so far.
First look: Completely new Triumph Tiger 1200
With Triumph’s lips pretty tightly closed on certain details or specs, we took a closer look at the photos to see what we could learn about the new Tiger 1200. And first we need to talk about these looks.
It feels like a souped-up Tiger 900, like the manufacturer spent the last two years working the mid-range bike in a gym instead of refining the design in CAD, and we’re big fans of the results. Complete with studded tires, spoked wheels, lower engine guards, and a rider who knows what they’re doing, it looks impressive, aggressive, and ready for serious trail riding.
We also assume that there will be a number of different Tiger 1200s for sale, especially since the Tiger 900 range released in 2019 included off-road GT models as well as off-road rally variants. With that in mind, it’s likely that the photos we’ve seen so far are from a rally variant of the big tiger.
This means there will likely be a more street-facing Tiger 1200 GT when the bike is also fully revealed, with cast wheels, street-facing suspension, and street tires. While Triumph’s promotional imagery is clearly designed with the wow factor in mind, we reckon the new 1200 will be pretty capable on the tarmac too.
With what looks like an adjustable screen, similar to the very effective one that comes on the Tiger 900, a comfortable-looking two-tier seat (likely heated judgment by tigers we’ve ridden in the past) and a 1200 cc three-cylinder engine, we expect that the new Triumph will also be a crisp touring bike, perfect for summer trips to the Alps.
Was the tiger on a diet?
It is also striking how slimmed down the new Tiger 1200 looks. Sure, it’s impossible to tell weight from a photo and we’ll be in judgment until full specs are released, but Triumph has already confirmed that losing a few pounds was a major focus and that the new 1200 is one would have “amazing weight change”. .
This would be a welcome change. While we enjoyed the touring properties of the old 1200, it was very top heavy, which made for some hairier moments when driving off-road. If Triumph can deliver on its claim that the new 1200 will be “significantly lighter than its closest competition,” then hats off to the designers who are taking feedback from the drivers on board.
When can we expect the new Tiger 1200 in the UK?
So far there is no further information on when we will see the new triumph Tiger 1200 in stores.
However, as the typical “New Bike Season” is getting closer and closer in autumn, we keep our fingers crossed that we will be able to throw our legs over the new adventure bike towards the end of the year or the beginning of 2022. And when we do, we’ll let you know what it’s like to drive.
