Two years after its first tease at EICMA 2019, the Italian manufacturer Aprilia has finally lifted the lid on its entry into the medium-duty adventure bike world, the Tuareg 660.
It’s a bike that has got us pretty excited at ABR HQ since we spied the first footage of an adventure bike that dates back to the era of Aprilia Dakar outings in the 80s and 90s. But there is more than just the legacy that interests us.
After our first look at the first data sheet, we assume that Aprilia has the ever-popular Yamaha Ténéré 700 firmly in its sights with the Tuareg. So what are the headlines?

Aprilia Tuareg 660 First look
Immediate first impressions are good. Of course, beauty is subjective, but we love the pared-down, rally-esque looks of the Aprilia Tuareg, while the popularity of the Tenere 700 suspect that we are not the only ones who think the same way.
The bike is built around a 659cc two-cylinder engine plucked from Aprilia’s sporty RS660, but it has been detuned to add more low-end grunt at the expense of a few horses at higher revs.
The result is a power plant that produces an impressive 80 hp and 70 Nm of torque, which is a little more than Yamaha’s offer in both respects. An 18-liter fuel tank provides the engine with sufficient range for days of tours.
The suspension seems ready to pass the test, with 43mm USD forks up front and a rear monoshock that offer an impressive 240mm of travel on either end. The brakes come from the leading manufacturer Brembo and have switchable ABS at the front and rear, which should be useful when driving off-road.
The statistics sheet also indicates that it will be a manageable bike on the trails, with a relatively (for an off-road adventure bike) low seat height of 860 mm and a dry weight of 187 kg. While we’ll have to wait to test it out for ourselves, there is no doubt that those first numbers make the Aprilia Tuareg 660 an impressive motorcycle on paper. And that’s not all…
Lots of technology
While what we’ve seen so far suggests that the Tuareg 660 might be ready to catch up with the Ténéré 700, lucky buyers of Aprilia’s new adventure bike get a lot more technical and electronic driving aids in comparison.
There’s a 5-inch TFT screen, four driver modes (including customizable road and off-road modes), traction control, engine brake control, and even cruise control.
While we have to see all of this tech perform on the road, it’s great to see a sturdy and ready-to-go medium-capacity adventure bike that is equipped with the modern technology you have come to expect from larger adventure bikes.
There’s no word on pricing or when the Aprilia Tuareg 660 will be available in the UK, but if we find out we will be sure to let you know.
